Twilight

I have heard lots about this book series by Stephenie Meyer. It’s even being made into a major motion picture, due out in a couple of months…I’m sure the legions of fans of this series of novels could give you the countdown to the millisecond as to when the film will premier. My Facebook searches for Flair are bogged down by endless pieces of propaganda for the book and it’s main characters, Edward and Bella. Unable to contain my curiosity for one more day, I had to scout out this book.

Last night, while running in to Price Chopper to get chocolate milk for my 3 year old who exists purely on brown milk (life has been sustained on it, from breast to cocoa (took a while to figure out cocoa meant chocolate milk) no food shall ever pass her lips I’m afraid…except of course for chocolate), I actually gambled on the tiny grocery store having a copy on the shelf and I won the bet!

I started it this morning at 8am and by dinner time, I had consumed 390 pages of the book, all the while managing to get some laundry done, feed the aforementioned child with chocolate milk and making 2 meals which went largely uneaten (she will eat waffles); help her play some Go Diego Go on Wii; play some Nick Jr. games on my laptop; get her dressed; play in the backyard, etc.  I also ran to Target and Super Walmart and got groceries, but I digress. The book is an easy read. It’s a solid story. The plot is interesting, characters adequately developed. It is a book written for a younger group of individuals, so nothing racy, yet the story centers around the love affair between the two main characters. As I read, as most do I suspect, I envisioned the characters as they were described. Edward Cullen, the main character (a Vampire) is described as having copper hair and topaz eyes. He is perhaps the most beautiful man in existence, vampire or human. His looks are breath-taking. Exquisite.

About 1/2 way through the book, I decided to research the film. Of course there is a website for it, and lots of promo pictures all over the internet. Evidently, there are over 100 fan sites dedicated to this series of novels. Ok, so some people wrap themselves up in characters in novels and movies. I get that, kind of.  At any rate, my point in all this is, This is what Edward has materialized as for the film adaptation of the book:

and quite honestly, the actor portraying the Edward Cullen character…the most unbelievable looking creature to roam the earth, ever, well….he’s attractive. I wouldn’t begrudge him of that. However, I have a very difficult time understanding how Joe Jonas did not get cast for this role. Bitches, please. He undeniably, unquestionably fits the description (well the hair I guess they would do something about as the color is not right, but that is easily remedied. Looks like they’ve altered most of the actors’ hair colors for this film.

The only guess I have is that the author of the book, the producers, directors, etc. didn’t want too many people going to see the film, as that is what would have happened if Joe Jonas had been cast as Edward. As it stands, the film will probably do ok. Just would have broken all box office records had they cast Edward properly.

Oh well. Here’s My Joe Jonas and his topaz eyes. He will continue to be My Edward Cullen as I read this book.
